This Sunday we had a great concert by the trio Bum Ditthree at 6pm at the Balaguer Municipal Theatre, organised by the Balaguer Cultural Association Grup d’Art 4, an entity associated with Joventuts Musicals Catalunya.

The central focus of this has been Old Time music, a North American folk genre that was born precisely in the Appalachian Mountains in the 19th century. Based on this musical genre, they have presented us with traditional melodies and newly composed melodies created today. On this musical journey they have also stopped in other folk cultures such as Swedish, Norwegian, Galician, Scottish… Therefore, the repertoire has the American style as its protagonist, with touches of folk from all over the world, nourishing and filling the concert with a rich musical variety.

Bum Ditthree is also formed by a mix of cultures, created in 2017 by the American Ned Somerville (on banjo, guitar and vocals) the Catalan Joana Gumí (on banjo, violin and vocals) with the new addition of the Galician Hugo Franco (on guitar, mandolin and vocals). They have premiered in Balaguer Rossinyol, the popular Catalan song, mixed with a Galician melody but with an Old Time style.
They have performed for us: Coon Dog + Sugar Hill – Salt Spring – Greazy coat – Red Prairie Down + Shoe maker – Fayetteville – Waterbound – Trip to Walden Pond – Norskeen
Bas – Pelles Eriks Brudpolska + Saturday night – Oopick Waltz – Rossinyol – Sail away ladies – Shady Groove – Red rocking chair- Say darlin say – La canço de les gallines.
